I know, I know… I’ve been remiss in my updates :(. The honest reason is that cancer fights dirty. It grabs a fistful of your hair, pulls out your earrings and takes the first cheap shot it can get. When your opponent fights like that it’s hard to brace yourself for the next hit because you just don’t know where it will be coming from!
That’s how I’ve felt throughout this cancer experience. One day I’m feeling great, the next day I’m rushing to the hospital for an emergency blood transfusion (that’s happened THREE times now!). My hemoglobin levels are constantly dropping, my immune system is weak and as a result I’ve had to contend with various complications like an intestinal virus (yuck), a lung infection (possibly pneumonia), an inflammation in my chest, etc. etc. All of that on top of the typical aches and pains. Right now I’m dealing with the worst mouth sores EVER; they’re pretty much like canker sores. They’re holding my tongue hostage and have set up little soldiers all the way down my throat and throughout my digestive track. Every time I try to talk or eat they fire off a painful reminder that they’re in charge. I hate them. I’ve been super fatigued lately as well. If there was a movie role where the character stayed inside and slept all day I’d win an Oscar.
However, ALL that being said… I have so much happy news to report! First, the lymphoma tumor is almost gone!!! It’s melting like butter! And second… I am finished with chemotherapy!! Can you believe it’s been only a little more than four months since I was diagnosed?? It’s crazy to think that time has flown by, but it has! And I’m grateful for that, among thousands of other things. My recovery is far from over. In fact, doctors have told me to brace myself for the most severe fatigue I’ve ever felt. Six rounds of chemotherapy ravages your body and now it’s time to rebuild. I’m certainly feeling it now which is why it has taken me so long to get back on here. I tend to nod off a lot. I’ve never felt fatigue like this. My friend Kevin asked me today if I’m starting to run out of dreams because I sleep so much. Haha, it’s a very “Kevin” question but no, I still have plenty of dreams ;).
So right now I’m going to work on getting my energy back. I can’t wait for my eyelashes, eyebrows and hair to grow back. Even my shadow catches me off guard sometimes :(.
And I definitely can’t wait until I have the strength to get back to work! Once again, all of the well-wishes, thoughts and prayers you send me light up my heart and strengthen my soul. I’m pretty sure if anyone were to walk into my house and make a wish it would be granted because there is so much positive energy being sent my way it’s swirling around my home and it’s already granted my wish :).

Congrats Jessica on finishing your chemo!! So, so happy for you and your great news. I totally understand how you are feeling so very tired. Just know it does get better. I had to have a blood transfusion too. I am almost 2 months now from ending my treatment, and I would say I feel about 45% back to feeling stronger. I have terrible neuropathy in my feet, ankles, and hands which happened after treatment stopped so that’s hard to deal with. My eyebrows and eyelashes fell out after treatment stopped too. But, my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes are all coming in very fast now which is awesome. Best of all though is that I am disease free and that makes all I went through worthwhile. Even though ovarian cancer is a recurring cancer, I will not allow myself the thought of the cancer coming back, and I know you won’t either. I know you will start to feel stronger as the chemo leaves your body. It’s so wonderful to hear you have come through with flying colors! I’m SO looking forward to seeing you on the morning news again! I will keep you in my prayers always!

Keep the faith Jess. You WILL survive this! We are given the stress in our life to make us stronger. This has been put in your way to show you that you are stronger than even you know…
Miss your traffic reports and smile first thing in the morning when I turn on the news when i wake up. Can’t wait to see your triumphant return to brighten the early day and send me on my way to work with a smile…

Hang in there!
I went through a bone marrow transplant back in March and it was hell! The nausea, the vomiting, the weakness, the pain, the (insert symptoms 5-30 here) felt like it would never end. I’m at day +117 now, and I promise you that it gets better. The abdominal pains left, the exhaustion has gone away, my hair is even coming back! Surprisingly, I am able to play a little softball too.

AWESOME JESSICA!!!! This is the BEST NEWS I’ve heard all week, or month for that matter!!!! You are such a fighter and that’s just what you needed to be to kick that tumor’s behind! You certainly deserve this triumph! Enjoy it, it’s well deserved. I will continue to keep you in my daily prayers, for your continued recovery and for you to be able to overcome this debilitating fatigue! I suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome plus other health issues so I can relate somewhat to what you’re going through. I know too all to well the feeling of sitting down to read a book, work on the iPad or even eat and falling fast asleep. I can only imagine your fatigue is much greater than mine, so I truly feel for you! I know you said you “cannot wait for your hair, eyelashes and eyebrows” to grow back, I can certainly understand that too, but Jessica, you are so beautiful with or without hair!!! Not only are you beautiful on the outside, but you are beautiful on the inside too!!!! You are an INSPIRATION to so many of us! We continue to hold you up to The Lord in Prayers! We also look forward to your return to work. But Jessica, please just focus on yourself and your continued recovery, that’s what we (YOUR FANS) care about the most!!! We will wait as long as it takes for your triumphant return to the morning news program. GOD’S CONTINUED BLESSINGS TO YOU JESSICA AS YOU CONTINUE ON YOUR ROAD TO RECOVERY!

Take this time to rest, reflect, and document your journey. When I was diagnosed with cancer at 30, I was shocked! Keep fighting! The one thing I have learned from experience when it comes to cancer is the will to live is an amazing strength! You are a beautiful human being with many years left to share with the world. No matter how tough it gets just remember that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Now for a laugh I recently stumbled into video of you reporting from New Orleans during the Super Bowl. While you were talking a drunken idiot decided she would interrupt you and I have never in my life seen a smoother, more hilarious response in my life! you stuck her good! that’s the tenacity
you need to win this fight!!!!

Hi Jessica.
I completely understand what you are going through from on fighter to another. I have been fighting Luekemia for 5 years on and off, until last year when I went into what is called a blast crisis. I have spent the last 6 months in and out of the hospital, have had three different chemo treatments and a bone marrow transplant. One of the last chemo treatments was just two weeks ago. Getting ready to have my second transplant next month. Waiting on counts to recover right now. Can not wait to see what color my hair comes back as this time. It was strawberry blond, then pure white, then brown who knows what it will be this time. It certainly is not easy nor is it fun. I just keep telling myself that to stay positive, smile and what today can not finish tomorrow will. I wish you the best of luck on your road to recovery.

Jessica, I just found your blog, and wanted to tell you to hang in there and keep your spirits up! It is great to hear that your tumor is shrinking! I still think one of the best things in the fight against cancer is a positive mental attitude, which luckily you seem to have an abundance of 🙂 Most people have no inkling at all of truly how it feels when going through Chemo. And I truly hope they don’t have to know! At 36 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage III Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in Febuary of 2010, I went through six months of ABVD Chemotherapy with 2 weeks of follow up radiation.
This September, WHEN, not if this scan comes back clean, I will be 3 years Cancer free 🙂 I won’t lie, I still get nervous before my scans, but you can’t live in fear, especially when we get our second chances. So find someone to talk to that knows what you are going through, find strength in family and friends. And keep us updated on your progress, and can’t wait to read the post from you about your full remission 🙂 Keeping you and yours in my prayers.

Jessica you are beautiful with our without hair. Our beauty lies within, not in hair. I’ve always wanted to shave my head (it was half shaved when I had brain surgery for an aneurysm) but my hair person freaks out and says NO, I’m not shaving your head. Keep up the strong fight, can’t imagine what your going through but please know your loved by your viewing public as well as your family & friends.

Stay strong in spirit and smile that lovely smile.
I was diagnosed with Stage III non-hodgkins lymphoma in 12/10 and found your blog this past winter. This was the first time I was able to hear someone’s experiences with this disease. Along with so many others, I, too, have been holding your hand as you proceed with this vigil.
My home is near Orlando and in MI. So far, I’ve chosen the “wait and watch” method of treatment, as my bloodwork and CAT’s show no new development. However, as of this winter, my neck now has many jellybean sized lumps. But both my oncologists (Winter Park Hospital, FL and Henry Ford Hospital, MI) say not to be too concerned until they get larger. Like Cadbury Eggs? Right!?
Congratuations with your victorious news!

Jessica, you are awesome! I work in a radiation oncology center and many of our patients are receiving chemo & radiation concurrently. I know what your chemo takes out do you and admire your strength & courage throughout your treatment time and now as your body heals and re-builds. When I think I’m having a bad day I go to the treatment area and visit with our patients, they always have smile on their face and words of encouragement for everyone they met and my bad day turns sunny again. Continue to keep up your courage and faith. God bless you and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

May God heal you and bless you, may His Holy Spirit go inside of you and clean out any of this lymphoma and completely restore you, killing any cancer cells or making them disappear or turn them into inert nothing. May God make sure you get enough nutrition in this fight, too and make your blood Ph higher than 6.8 or alkaline, not acidic, since such can also cure cancer. In Jesus’ Name AMEN.
